Patent Attorneys
Kokka & Backus, PC has open patent attorney positions for candidates seeking an intellectual-property focuses practice environment. We are expanding our practice to service increasing client demand in California, the US, and abroad. Clients include venture-backed startups to Fortune 100 companies. Ideal candidates will possess the following:
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution in a law firm preparing and prosecuting patent applications
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degrees in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Must be admitted to practice in California
- Must be a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
- At least 2+ years of technical work experience preferred
- Willingness to travel (less than 10% per year)
- Strong entrepreneurial zeal and desire to work with other entrepreneurs
Responsibilities will include immediate client contact, providing counseling and services to clients performing patent and trademark preparation and prosecution, licensing, intellectual property rights enforcement, infringement analysis, portfolio development, and inventor education and training. In-depth training in substantive practice, client development and management, and international IP counseling are also provided. Above-market salaries, compensation, and benefits are offered. Patent Agents
Kokka & Backus, PC has open positions for patent agents seeking to work with a highly dedicated team of intellectual property practitioners, servicing clients ranging from venture-backed startups to Fortune 100 companies. The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in patent prosecution in a law firm preparing and prosecuting patent applications
- Must have at least 1 published patent writing sample (patent or application)
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degrees in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Must be a registered patent agent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
- At least 5+ years of technical work experience, technical management experience as a software architect or product manager is preferred
- Strong entrepreneurial zeal and desire to work with other entrepreneurs
Responsibilities will include performing patent preparation and prosecution and working with intellectual property attorneys to service the Firm’s clients. Kokka & Backus, PC has an open position for a legal secretary, no experience required. The ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications:

Responsibilities including providing secretarial and receptionist support to the Firm, mail handling, bank deposits, general office management, administrative supplies management, filing, and preparing client correspondence when directed by attorneys, agents, or paralegals.
