Ms. Chuang is an attorney specializing in patent, trademark, copyright, and other forms of intellectual property law. Her areas of expertise include representing clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and counseling on matters involving litigation-related analyses, portfolio development, and general IP strategy. She also provides services in the area of patent strategy development, patent harvesting, licensing, enforcement, portfolio development, patent acquisition, and legal analysis. She has experience and expertise working with a wide range of technologies including electrical, electronic, semiconductor, software, computer, medical device, and mechanical arts.
Ms. Chuang spent numerous years as a senior patent litigation attorney at a notable intellectual property law firm in Silicon Valley prior to joining Kokka & Backus, where her work included advising clients on various types of analyses in support of patent infringement and reexamination activities, counseling clients on various types of intellectual property issues related to business strategy, supervising litigation teams in support of discovery, and providing various types of pleadings, motions, briefs, and other papers. She has extensive patent litigation experience and, when combined with her expertise in patent preparation and prosecution, is an invaluable counselor to any client. Apart from litigation, Ms. Chuang has also participated in numerous mediations and settlement negotiations related to patent infringement litigation. Prior to private practice, Ms. Chuang was a judicial extern for the Honorable Judge Jamie Jacobs-May in Santa Clara County Superior Court sitting in San Jose, California.
Ms. Chuang is licensed to practice law before the state courts of California, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of California, Southern District of California, and the Eastern District of Texas, and the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the Ninth Circuit and the Federal Circuit. Ms. Chuang is a registered patent attorney authorized to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She received her J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley (Boalt Hall) where she graduated with a Certificate in Law & Technology from the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology. She served as the 2002-2003 Editor-in-Chief of the Berkeley Technology Law Journal (BTLJ) and received high honors and honors grades in numerous courses. She also received her Bachelors of Arts degree in English Literature and Molecular Cell Biology (with an emphasis in Neurobiology) from U.C. Berkeley, having been honored with a Chancellor’s Scholarship. She is also conversational in both Mandarin and Taiwanese.
