Mr. Chang is an attorney specializing in patent, trademark, copyright, and other forms of intellectual property law. His areas of expertise include the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications and representing clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He also provides services in the area of patent strategy development, patent harvesting, portfolio development, technical analysis, patent acquisition, infringement, and legal analysis with respect to patent infringement litigation matters. He has experience and expertise working with technologies in the electrical, electronic, semiconductor, software, computer, medical device, and mechanical arts.
Mr. Chang has also worked at various intellectual property law firms in Silicon Valley prior to joining Kokka & Backus, where his work included preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the electrical, mechanical, and software-related arts and supporting patent litigation efforts, including constructing claim charts and reviewing materials in support of Markman proceedings. Prior to becoming a registered patent agent, Mr. Chang had worked as a software development engineer in the XIG Group at Synopsys, Incorporated in Mountain View, California and the Infrastructure Group at Monterey Design Systems in Sunnyvale, California. These technical positions provided him experience with numerous programming languages, including C, C++, MATLab, VHDL, Verilog, LEF, and DEF, operating systems, and applications, including complex software development requirements management applications such as CaliberĀ®. His balance of technical and legal experience and expertise are invaluable to clients seeking assistance with intellectual property matters.
Mr. Chang received his J.D. from the Santa Clara University School of Law and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Mr. Chang is a registered patent attorney authorized to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is also fluent in both Mandarin and Taiwanese.
